For this it basic what a commission would be like and it was a interesting task because I never designed a poster before and it would give me a new experience.
What I was given was a briefing of what they wanted for the poster. The basic aim was to design a poster in any format we wanted and any size, I only got the paper and missed the briefing which was my own fault and I dearly regret it but I did ask PINKSKY what the brief was and they gave me that information along with a sheet of paper. This sheet told me what they wanted out of the poster, they wanted something related to Spanish cherries. With the sheet it also gave me advice such as look up reference for what we want in our poster design and is relevant to the design and brief. With the brief were given restrictions. The restrictions are don't go for culture clothes, be racially sensitive and base it in modern day.
After knowing to what I was going to do, I was given to the end of the day to design I post (or so I thought). What I used was traditional media of fine liner and inks. I first created a rough outline in pencil so then I outline to follow. Then I started using inks to colour in, after they dyed I final used a fine liner to outline the drawing.
I then had to head back to the studio at half four for all the group to show what we had designed. After I viewed all the others I felt that I'm wasn't near that level. I was about to give up until they said that we can hand on 2nd of October if we didn't finish our poster designs or we want to redesign. So with this information I decided to redesign my poster. So what I did over the weekend was design a poster in Photoshop to help improve my Photoshop skills and to make a better poster.
With the overall outcome I was happy that I decided that I did this so that I gain experience in what it is like to do a day brief and what it is like to do a commission. With this information I am going to consider doing commission in the future. But overall I know I wasn't no match with the other students but this has given a influence to myself to try just as hard next time and to strive to improve my art skills and style.
